Creative Winter Holiday Fun
|
|
|
Throughout the winter holidays, Museum Ovartaci invites children and their adults to enjoy cosy, creative activities in our Children & Youth Atelier every day from 1–3 PM. There’s plenty of room for genuine creative togetherness, where both little and big hands can join in.
Inspired by Ovartaci’s art, you can create double-sided drawings and traditional Danish gækkebreve (cut-paper letters). It’s not about perfection, but about being together, letting creativity flow, and having fun.
All activities in the Children & Youth Atelier are free of charge, and as always, all children and young people under 18 enjoy free admission to the museum’s exhibitions. This makes it easy to combine creative immersion with inspiring museum experiences along the way.
Bring the family and enjoy the winter holidays at a calm, creative pace at Museum Ovartaci.

CLAY · CREATIVITY · COMMUNITY
|

In the mid-20th century, a group of artists gathered in the ceramic town of Albisola in Italy. Among them was Danish CoBrA painter Asger Jorn, who had a summer house in the town and helped leave a strong artistic imprint—one that can still be traced today.
On Thursday, 12 February, 5:00–6:00 PM, we invite you to an inspiring lecture with art historian, curator, and PhD candidate Paola Gargiulo from Casa Museo Jorn. She will guide us through the Albisola area, exploring what drew artists to this place and how their encounters can be seen as a parallel to the creative communities we know from Museum Ovartaci today.
Participation is free with paid museum admission. Members of Friends of Museum Ovartaci enjoy free access.
The lecture will be held in English.

WRONG!
|
|
|
New exhibition at Museum Ovartaci gives voice to perspectives rarely heard.
WRONG! presents three powerful voices speaking with raw honesty about their encounters with psychiatry: textile artist Caroline Sofie Larsen (2000–2024), visual artist Agne Gye (b. 1992), and author Lea Muldtofte (b. 1987).
The exhibition features works created in response to the language and practices of psychiatry. Individually and in dialogue with one another, the three artists have developed a counter-language that invites a shift in how we understand the psychiatric view of humanity.
Museum Director Mia Lejsted says about the exhibition:
WRONG! opens the door to a world few of us know and gives voice to those who are more often spoken about than listened to. The exhibition makes space for lived experiences that challenge our perception of psychiatry—not to provide answers, but to encourage reflection, conversation, and new understanding.”
The exhibition runs from 27 February to 17 May 2026.
Opening reception: 26 February 2026 at 5:00 PM.

Musical Alliances

In close collaboration with Ensemble Lydenskab, Museum Ovartaci invites you to a sensory and intimate concert experience at the museum on 12 March at 5:00 PM.
The concert grows out of a long-term collaboration between artists and people with lived experience from the field of social psychiatry, where music and poetry have been created through shared artistic co-creation. Personal stories are transformed into songs that hold both vulnerability and strength, opening up new ways of listening – to ourselves, to one another, and to the world around us. Ensemble Lydenskab, together with Martin Ottosen and Ulla Bendixen (Sorten Muld) and poet Gerd Laugesen, create a sonic space for immersion and resonance. The concert is in close dialogue with Museum Ovartaci’s focus on art and the mind and brings together a research-based practice in a healing, collective experience.
The concert takes place within the museum’s exhibitions.
A limited number of tickets are available and sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

From Ebeltoft to New York – Ovartaci in the World
|
|
|
Hear the story of how an artist who created his works at the Psychiatric Hospital in Risskov became part of international art history.
Ovartaci – born Louis Marcussen – worked throughout his life in borderlands between gender, identity, reality, and vision, and it is precisely these themes that make his work strikingly relevant today. In 2026, Ovartaci is included in the opening exhibition New Humans – Memories of the Future at the newly expanded New Museum in New York, curated by Massimiliano Gioni. Here, Ovartaci’s works are shown side by side with names such as Dalí, Giacometti, and Bacon. The event explores and unfolds different perspectives on how Ovartaci’s art speaks into a global conversation about transformation, psychology, and the limits of the human, inviting audiences on a journey through images, stories, and conversations with those who know Ovartaci both from within and from the outside.
The event is part of the Århundredets Festival.
🗓️ 14 March, 2:00–3:00 PM
