In many ways Marie Heiberg is a remarkable woman – a trained violinist, singer in a major choir and a skilled artist. Marie donated five large paintings to the Museum in 2000. The paintings date back to the early seventies – a period with mental illness and hospitalization. Marie’s paintings are characterized by strong emotions, sadness and yet hope in an imaginary landscape where the sky and the waters unite. The painting: “Messiah”, is built on Händel’s oratory. As a young violinist Marie took part in performing “Messiah” and the experience inspired her to paint this magnificent picture.
