2023

2023 will be another exciting year for Museum Ovartaci. In May the museum will reopen at our new location at ’Kulturhus Bunkeren’, Olof Palmes Allé in Aarhus Nord. Furthermore, we will participate in international cooperations and show Ovartaci’s work outside Denmark.

OPENING OF THE MUSEUM

The museum will reopen in May 2023, and we are really looking foreward to opening the museum and seeing you again. The next couple of months will be very busy with preparations of the opening.

PERMANENT EXHIBITION

In 2022 we have been working hard with our new permanent exhibition in close cooperation with Den Gamle By and Moesgaard Museum. An exhibition plan has been drawn up and soon the craftsmen will start transforming the empty rooms into exciting exhibitions.

SPECIAL EXHIBITION – ”HERE I AM”

When the museum reopens, it will be with a special exhibition focusing on the museum’s collection of art. The exhibition is curated by Mia Lejsted, director of Museum Ovartaci and the working title is “Here I am”.

About the exhibition Mia Lejsted says: “Some voices are forgotten, others we haven’t heard for a long time and some we’ve never heard before.” The voices are works from Museum Ovartaci’s extensive art collection and show a diversity of artists.

OVARTACI IN AMSTERDAM

From 26 January to 14 May 2023 Ovartaci’s art can be experienced as part of the exhibition “Cobra 75: Danish modern art 1934-1948” at the Cobra Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The exhibition provides a triptych retrospective of the main developments in Danish art in the years before, during and immediately after the Second World War and until the formation of the Cobra movement. International influences such as surrealism and expressionism, African sculpture, Danish prehistoric culture will be dealt with.

It is the first exhibition about this chapter of Danish modern art outside Denmark. Our contribution to the exhibition is shown in “Becoming Ovartaci” a tribute to Ovartaci’s exciting imagination

UNG i dag

We are happy to announce that Central Region Denmark has decided to co-finance our project ”UNG i dag” (Being young). The project aims to create a platform for and with young people rooted in art and culture.

Through the project the young people will meet each other through dialogues about identity, normality and body ideals and so strengthen their mental wellbeing.

FRIRUMMET – Our creative workshops

Until the end of March, the museum's creative workshops Frirummet are exhibiting 25 fine works at the Art Association Cabi in Aarhus. Cabi is a non-profit organization combining people and companies. Through the last couple of months, the users of the workshop have produced fine works ranging from woven images, wall installation and paintings. Unfortunately, the exhibition will not be open to the public.

We are looking for volunteers to our museum shop. As a volunteer you will be the first person our guests meet, and it is important that you are welcoming and openminded.
