From 8 September 2026 to 29 March 2027, Kunsten Museum of Modern Art, Aalborg presents the exhibition ‘Becoming Ovartaci’.

In connection with the exhibition, Museum Ovartaci has entered into a ticket partnership with Kunsten. As a member of Friends of Museum Ovartaci, you receive 25% off admission to Kunsten throughout the exhibition period.

The exhibition offers an opportunity to experience Ovartaci’s works in the setting of Kunsten and to discover different aspects of the artist’s practice.

Take a break from the pace of everyday life and join us for an evening of mindfulness, mandalas and creative immersion at Museum Ovartaci.

Inspired by the exhibition Óscar Morales Martínez – The Line that Holds the World, the evening combines simple mindfulness exercises with creative exploration of the patterns and colours of mandalas.

The event begins at 5.00 pm with an introduction to the exhibition, followed by sandwiches and water before we turn our attention to mindfulness exercises and mandalas.

All participants will receive a Flora Danica Mandalas colouring book worth DKK 150 to take home.

There are only 50 places available, and no previous experience is required.

Selected books about the museum’s artists are currently available at reduced prices in the Museum Ovartaci shop.

Among them is Kvartet, in which art historian Rita Lienhøft introduces four of the museum’s artists – Baukje Zijlstra, Johnny Horn, Jørgen Rud and Michael Høgholm – now available for DKK 75 (regular price DKK 110).

You can also find richly illustrated booklets on Patrick Larsen, John Dirckinck-Holmfeld, Skærlundia  and Peter Johannes Staal  for just DKK 45 each (regular price DKK 70).

Experience Museum Ovartaci as the pace slows and evening sets in. On Thursday, 27 August, we invite you to Food & Museum – an evening of art, stories and good food in relaxed surroundings.

The evening begins with a guided tour of Ovartaci’s extraordinary universe. You will get to know the artist and learn more about life at the Psychiatric Hospital in Risskov.

After the tour, we will serve a hot meal and a glass of wine, leaving you the rest of the evening to explore the museum’s exhibitions at your own pace. Return to an art work that caught your attention during the tour, take a closer look at something you may have missed, or simply enjoy the special atmosphere of the museum after hours.

We are hosting only two Food & Museum evenings this autumn, and there are just 20 places available for the guided tour.

To mark Ovartaci’s birthday Saturday, 26 September, Museum Ovartaci invites you to a special afternoon of art, stories and birthday cake.

During the guided tour, we take a closer look at Ovartaci’s life and art – from the artist’s admission to the Psychiatric Hospital in Risskov to a lifelong artistic practice. Through selected works and stories, you will gain insight into Ovartaci’s lived experience, imaginative world and the ideas that left their mark on a distinctive artistic practice.

After the tour, the birthday celebration continues in the museum’s garden room, where we will serve coffee, tea and birthday cake. Afterwards, there will be plenty of time to explore the exhibitions on your own.

• 3.30–5.00 pm – Explore the exhibitions at your own pace

Throughout late summer and into autumn, Museum Ovartaci invites you to step into the distinctive visual universe of Chilean artist Óscar Morales Martínez in the exhibition ‘The Line that Holds the World’.

In his detailed drawings, Morales brings together colours, numbers, symbols, imaginary creatures and science fiction in a highly personal visual language. His works explore the human need to create meaning and coherence, while offering an encounter with a distinctive voice in Latin American Art Brut.

The exhibition brings together works from different periods of Morales’ artistic practice spanning more than 30 years and can be experienced at Museum Ovartaci until 18 October 2026.
